On the outskirts of Piraeus, in late 1950s Drapetsona, Keti, a brilliant high school girl who secretly reads Fyodor Dostoevsky, feels trapped in a humble two-room house and the prospect of a stagnant life as a seamstress. Then, condemned to share the same fate with her defeated, dreamless mother, Keti summons up the courage to attend the farewell party of her best friend, wearing an old engagement dress. And, little by little, as silent tension turns into a fervent desire for emancipation, Keti decides to take matters into her own hands, live out her most romantic fantasies, and find her purpose in life. In a cruel, dog-eat-dog world, can an old muslin dress inspire hope?
