Poor artist in garret room bewailing his ill luck-Looks out of window, sees links of sausage hanging in butcher's shop across the street-Paints on canvas a realistic picture of same-Substitutes painting for real article-Returns home-No means of cooking ill-gotten meal-Paints a fire on canvas so realistically that flames burst forth-Butcher discovers deception, suspects artist, summons officer and starts for thief-Artist hears searching party-paints open fireplace on window shade-Butcher, officer and followers see apparent opening, rush in, fall through window into street below while artist devours sausage with evident relish.
