Five Germans board in the same Cuban rural-coast boardinghouse, run by hedonistic Jesus, his bossy daughter Esperanza, and his granddaughter Shari, the bossy principal of the local school with green, shy admirer Ruben. Hamburg wine merchant Reimers hopes in vain that 'catching up' on the honeymoon interrupted by his wife Ines' pregnancy will help her get over their teen son Simon's fatal 'accident,' but a double secret weighs too heavily. Airhead beautician Rena Helmich comes for cheap eye surgery to become desirable, but arouses no interest whatsoever in Dr. Georg Winter from Halle, who decides to track down family history given a medical death sentence. Only kid orphan Ben takes to Rena. Unwilling age-limit-retired principal Margot volunteers to help run the school, but Shari refuses to let her teach--until she bravely saves a drowning schoolboy and takes on rebuilding the school after a fire.
