José Luis Sáenz de Heredia
For years the critics reproached his involvement with the franco regime and his relationship with José Antonio Primo de Rivera. In fact, he directed Race, a film whose script he wrote based on a text of Francisco Franco, and the documentary Franco, that man, a documentary that tried not to direct but was virtually forced by the Leader. Sáenz de Heredia began his career of a film director under the auspices of Luis Buñuel, when he was responsible for maximum production of the company Filmófono. After the triumph of the nationalists in the Civil War, Sáenz de Heredia became one of the most important directors in Spain. Franco's committed, he held several official positions during the regime of general Franco, among them the director of the Official School of Cinema. He is the author of the libretto of the journal Yola, premiered by Celia Gámez in 1941.
