The action begins at a villa in Warsaw's Zoliborz in the autumn of 1942. There is an underground meeting of underground army soldiers: Major Jeremi, Captain Leliwy, Lieutenant Lotka and the youngest of them all - Lieutenant Pet. Captain informs the gathered that the command has set up a special task unit codenamed Litzmanstadt. Major Jeremi was appointed commander of the unit, thus the others are his subordinates. From him they learn about the planned transaction of buying a large amount of weapons and ammunition. The goods are offered by the staff officer of the Italian division, who after withdrawing from the eastern front will temporarily be stationed in Poland.
