Zalongo, the Fort of Freedom (1959)
More than anything in the world, the murderous ruler of Ioannina, Ali Pasha, wants to conquer the impenetrable region of Souli in the rugged mountains of Central Epirus. But, amid death and chaos during the blood-stained Revolution against the tyrannical Ottoman Empire, the small community is still holding strong, as the brave patriots hold their ground at all costs. Now, against all odds, dauntless Captain Kitsos Botsaris and beautiful Maro Tzavella summon up the strength to fall in love, unbeknownst to them that the equally courageous lieutenant, Malamos Drakos, is bent on marrying Maro, to put an end to a long-standing feud. However, the enemy is approaching, and this time, nothing can stop the multitudes of the bloodthirsty invaders. Under those grave circumstances, only treason could lead to defeat. Do heroes fear death?
