Pedro beat his wife, Anita, unmercifully and staggers down to the saloon, leaving her crying and her blind old father wringing his hands in agony. Pedro plays poker at the saloon and young Bob Radcliff joins him and the others in the game. Bob loses, catches Pedro in some trickery and threatens to shoot him. Meanwhile, Anita slips down to the saloon and hides in its shadows. Pedro leaves the saloon and Anita stabs him and flees. A moment later Bob ventures out the door and stumbles across Pedro's body. The sheriff grabs him, he is brought to trial, and, despite the pleadings of his sweetheart, Helen, is ordered banished from the town. Secret meetings between the two come often after that, for Bob builds himself a little shack on the edge of the town, Helen one day decides to call and console Anita. Anita, suffering tortures through her conscience, rises from the table, hurls herself on the floor crying out her secret, while her blind father stands over her and curses her. Helen hears through the open door and rushes off to tell the happy news to Bob. Together they come into town and arrive at the sheriff's office just after Anita, torn by her suffering, has confessed her guilt to the sheriff. And then Bob forgives Anita and the town heaves a sigh for relief, for the Judge refuses to prosecute the hapless woman after a jury has returned a verdict of justifiable homicide.
