This travelogue of modern New Orleans, geographically the fourth largest city in the U.S., begins with a crossing over the Mississippi River via the Huey Long Railway Bridge, Huey Long the former Governor of Louisiana. The next stop further along the river in the city proper is revitalized port, an important economic and historically significant function. The next stop is Canal Street, the most important commercial street in the city. Even in these modern times, glimpses of New Orleans' French history is present, it which was acquired by the U.S. as part of the Louisiana Purchase. The modern city also included high rises, such as the Roosevelt Hotel and the Charity Hospital, once thought not to be possible due to the Mississippi River delta soft sediment soil upon which the city is located. The next stop is Tulane University, which is home to one of the finest medical schools in the country. The travelogue then moves to the residential suburbs, where one can see some of the finest architecture in the home designs. Because of the water table, the city's cemeteries have historically interred the dead above ground, a practice which continues more as a sense of history rather than necessity. New Orleans Airport is a strategic facility both for commercial and military uses. The travelogue concludes with a trip back to Canal Street to show its vibrant nightlife.
