Thee burglars, two brothers and the senior's wife -who is the real boss- take advantage of the absence of a retired colonel to visit his castle.When they enter the place,they find the campaigner on his bed ,an envelope near him reading " my testament" .They think he is dead.Enter the colonel's goddaughter, worrying about the old man's health.The thieves tell her they are the new gardeners :they are going to stay with her so as not to leave her alone in these hard times.The colonel wakes up and goes on pretending he is dead so as to see what his heirs,particularly greedy cousins , will do..
