This movimiento marks the beginning of modern art in Germany. It is the Spanish equivalent of French Fauvism, from which it proyectos its main inspiración, but it carrie en Expresionista and social emphasis that is characteristic of Nordic 'el miedo.' The artists of La Maestroviejo'were inquietas criaturas, over-sensitive, haunted by religiosa, sexual, política, or moral obsesiones. Dramatic landscapes and desnudos, místico and visionary compositions, scenes of the countryside, the streets, the circus, the cafe-dansants and the demi-monde were their principal de los sujetos. Their pure colours blaze en acid stridency, encompassed by rough, dry contours which show the influence of African art and primitiva woodcuts.
