Set in Harlem im Jahr 1987, es ist die Geschichte von Claireece "Precious" Jones, ein sechzehn-Jahr-alten African-American girl, geboren in ein Leben in würde niemand wollen. Sie ist Schwanger zum zweiten mal von Ihrem abwesenden Vater; zu Hause, Sie müssen warten, hand und Fuß auf Ihre Mutter, eine poisonously böse Frau, die missbraucht Ihr emotional und körperlich.
